Telecom Security and Revenue Assurance

We design and build security products that let mobile operators see the traffic entering their networks, stop what should not be there, and get paid for what should.

What does telecom security mean for a mobile operator?

For a mobile operator, telecom security covers two things that often overlap: protecting the network and its subscribers from attacks that arrive over interconnects (on SS7, Diameter, GTP and SMPP), and protecting revenue from traffic that reaches subscribers without being paid for, such as grey-routed A2P SMS, SIM box bypass and unbilled FlashCall verification.

Where operators lose messaging revenue

A2P SMS is one of the few growing wholesale revenue lines for mobile operators, and it leaks in predictable ways:

  • Grey routes: commercial SMS delivered through interconnects priced for person-to-person traffic.
  • SIM boxes: bulk messages injected through local SIM cards so they look like subscriber traffic.
  • Spoofing and faking: messages with manipulated origin addresses that bypass charging and trust.
  • FlashCall: verification moved from billed SMS to unbilled missed calls on voice trunks.
  • Reconciliation gaps: A2P traffic delivered under agreements but not fully billed.

The same paths are also used for phishing and fraud against subscribers. Our guide to SMS fraud types covers each one.

How the products fit together

  1. Detect. The honeypot uses trap numbers to show which routes deliver into your network today, and through which originating networks.
  2. Protect. The SMS firewall, SMPP firewall and signaling firewall enforce rules on live traffic.
  3. Monetize. Blocked A2P traffic returns through paid agreements, and FlashCall monetization bills verification calls.
  4. Assure. Revenue assurance audits reconcile what was delivered with what was billed.

No single tool catches every bypass. Honeypot evidence makes firewall rules more precise; firewall data shows what the honeypot should test next; audits show whether the revenue actually arrived.

Deployment models

Products run as software on the operator's premises or hosted, connected to the operator's STP or signaling gateway, SMSC and voice interconnects. Most engagements start with an assessment that measures current traffic before any blocking rule goes live, so the operator sees the expected impact on revenue and on legitimate traffic first.

Standards

Policies follow GSMA guidance, including FS.11 for SS7 interconnect security, FS.19 for Diameter, FS.20 for GTP, FS.12 for A2P SMS bypass and SG.22 for SMS firewall policies. See our guide to the GSMA SMS security documents.

Why Wise Network

We run international voice and SMS traffic ourselves and build the products that police it. That combination means we understand how bypass routes are assembled commercially, not only how they look in signaling traces. Our own route policy, direct and approved routes only, is the standard our products help operators enforce.

Frequently asked questions

Are your security products your own?

Yes. The firewalls, honeypot and FlashCall detection are designed, built and supported by Wise Network.

Can we deploy one product without the others?

Yes. Each product works on its own. They share data when deployed together, for example honeypot evidence feeding SMS firewall rules.

Do you offer on-premise and hosted deployment?

Both models are possible, and the choice usually depends on regulation, data residency and the operator's operations team. It is agreed during the assessment.

Request a security demo

Tell us which problem you are solving: grey routes, signaling attacks, FlashCall, SMPP abuse or revenue leakage. We will propose a demo or an assessment on your traffic.
